“There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life—fear of death, fear of judgment—is one not yet fully formed in love.”
– 1 John 4:18 (NIV)
When sorrow comes to steal the joy I own
When brokenness and pain is all I know
Oh, I won’t be shaken, no, I won’t be shaken
When I stand in Your love
I am not a captive to the lies
I’m not afraid to leave my past behind
Oh, I won’t be shaken, no, I won’t be shaken!
There’s power that can empty out a grave
There’s resurrection power that can save
There’s power in Your name, power in Your name
Every time I hear this song, I’m reminded of how much of my life is inadvertently spent in fear. Fear of disappointing others, fear of hurt, fear of sin, fear of death. But if we believe what we claim to believe, isn’t an all-powerful / all-loving God enough for us? Yes, though maybe it doesn’t always feel that way, not from moment to moment. Our immediate concerns can be like a giant crack in our glasses, blocking our sight from seeing the beauty just in front of us. When singing this song, be reminded that our vision is flawed, but that God’s love is perfect. -Matt Greene
